Vanderson goes behind the back against Huczek

The first semi-final match of the day featured #1 Jack Huczek and #5 Shane Vanderson in the Mens Open. Jack was too was too much for Shane and came away 15-11, 15-1. The second semi-final featured #2 Rocky Carson and #3 Jason Thoerner. The women were also pushed to the limit as #1 Cheryl Gudinas was pushed to a thrilling 11-1 tie-breaker against #4 Tammy Brown. Then fans were treated to another tie-breaker except this one was much more close. #2 Rhonda Rajsich was pushed to the brink of elimination by #3 Kristen Walsh. Rhonda fought off a scrappy and determined Walsh and finished the tie-breaker at 11-9 to advance to the finals today against Cheryl.

#2 Rhonda Rajsich defeats vs #1 Cheryl Gudinas
15-5, 15-8

Mens Open Final
#2 Rocky Carson defeats #1 Jack Huczek
15-10, 13-15, 11-3

Live Internet Radio Broadcast

There will be a live internet radio broadcast of the Ektelon 39th USA Racquetball 2006 National Singles Racquetball Championships. USA Racquetball's primetime coverag included selected mens and womens open division matches which are qualifers for an appointment to the U.S. National Team. The streaming audio live coverage will be cover matches with play-by-play commentary and interviews following each match. To listen to the Womens Final between #2 Rhonda Rajsich and #1 Cheryl Gudinas.

Follow along ... Links to online drawsheets  (when they become active) will be updated following each round, in all divisions. You will be re-directed to the R2 Sports Web-Site where you can see the results as they are posted following each match.

Reminder: Don't forget the event runs Wednesday through Monday. Division finals will take place on Monday (with the exception of the Mens and Womens OPEN Team Qualifying divisions, scheduled for Sunday). If your plan is to reach the finals make sure to plan your return flight for Memorial Day, Monday -- May 29.

*"The Met" refers to a second venue, that is adjacent to the Hyatt, in the One Allen Center. If your first round match is scheduled there, make sure to give yourself plenty of extra time to register at the YMCA before heading over to The Met.

Tournament Notes

 
Players at this years event will be treated to daily breakfast from Chick-Fil-A. Catering manager Brandon Stokes said, "We know how much racquetball players enjoy our chicken sandwiches, but our breakfast is also a great way to start the day."


Lunch will be served by Carrabba's Italian Grill all week. All of this in an effort to improve the hospitality for the tournament players. Carrabba's manager Keith Irvine said, "This gives people from all over the country a chance to sample the great tasting food that Carrabba's is known for."
